Jubilee Party to refund money to those who bought smart cards
Jubilee party members who bought the party’s smart cards will be refunded their money as the cards will not be used during party nominations.
Senate Majority Leader, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, said the party had decided to do away with the card system during nominations as their use could be unfair to some contesters.
Prof. Kindiki who was speaking at Kiriiria in Tharaka South Sub-county during the funeral of a local Sacco official, the late Gabriel Matumu, said wealthy politicians had bought most of the cards to distribute to their supporters.
“Use of the cards could have made our nominations skewed because all aspirants are not equal financially and being a party with a policy of providing a level playing ground for all our people we had to do away with them,” he said.
The Senator said that during the nominations, all that will be needed will be an identity card and a voter’s card.
He called on all those vying for the various posts during the next General Elections to conduct peaceful campaigns to avoid clashes as witnessed in 2007/8.
Prof. Kindiki asked the Tharaka Nithi county government to promptly pay nurses who have been on strike for the last two months paralyzing health services in the county.
He noted that during the protracted industrial dispute with nurses and doctors, health services in the county has deteriorated so much that locals sought medical services from neighboring Embu and Meru counties.
