Take care of laptops, urges PS
The Principal Secretary (PS) for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Sammy Itemere has called on school administrations in collaboration with security agents to secure Digital Learning Devices that have been distributed to various schools across the country.
Itemere noted that several primary schools had lost the learning devices issued to them and called on the police to take action.
“The police should protect the devices by engaging the village elders and through the use of ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative to stop the rampant cases of laptop thefts,” said Itemere.
While speaking on Monday at a Mbale Town hotel during Vihiga County Third Medium Term Consultation Workshop, the PS said the pupils, through the use of the laptops, would be competitive globally.
He said the devices had been programmed in a way that it becomes useless when stolen from the schools.
“Don’t steal these laptops from our children. The laptops will be of no value to those who take them away,” the PS stressed.
“Let us appreciate the concerted effort the government has put in place to provide our children with the devices in lower classes to enable them learn digitally,” said Itemere.
