Ten pupils injured
Two pupils from Kapkures Primary School in Marakwet West Sub County are receiving treatment at Kapsowar mission hospital following serious injuries they sustained after strong winds destroyed the roof of their classrooms on Thursday.
Eight others were treated and discharged at Kapcherop Health Centre where they were rushed after the Thursday afternoon incident.
Area Chief, Daniel Kibor said the pupils sustained injuries as they scampered for safety, with some being cut, while others fell down and were trampled on, in the ensuing commotion.
He said the pupils were breaking for lunch when the buildings started shaking before the roof of two classrooms was blown off leading to the stampede.
The chief is now calling well wishers to come to the aid of the school and help in purchasing of iron sheets and reconstruction of the roof, to enable learning to continue smoothly.
Kibor said the parents had already started meetings to look for ways of raising funds for the repairs.
