Device Explodes, Injures Pupil in Lugari

The explosive object that injured one pupil at Mautuma DEB primary school (2) - KAKAMEGA EXPLOSIVE PHOTO 2

A pupil was seriously injured as his colleagues escaped unscathed after they fiddled with an explosive gadget at Mautuma Primary School in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County.

According to the school’s Deputy Head Teacher Mrs. Jane Musyomi, the incident occurred shortly after she got to the school compound Monday morning.

Mrs. Musyomi said that a boy picked a gadget on his way to school and upon reaching the compound, it exploded as his friends tried to force open it.

“I heard the explosion from class six in the morning. This was followed by a lot of smoke and flames,” she narrated.

Mrs. Musyomi said that the building in which the explosion occurred seemed to shake at the sound and the boy was left bleeding profusely.

As the injured boy was rushed to hospital by his mother who was called to the school, Lugari Deputy Officer Commanding Police Division Anthony Njeru led security personnel in combing the scene but did not immediately establish what the object was.

The Police Boss said the object would be forwarded to forensic experts for verification to establish exactly what it was.
