Kuppet protests interdiction of teachers

Elgeyo Marakwet Kuppet branch secretary John Chesergon has protested the interdiction of five teachers from Marakwet East which he termed as unfair.

Chesergon is now calling for an independent audit into the disciplinary action which he blamed on shortcomings by the school’s management.

The five teachers from St. Augustine high school were interdicted for deserting duty after they were allegedly attacked by the students.

Speaking to the press in Iten, the union secretary said the teachers were punished for deserting duty after they were attacked by students adding that to date, no action has been taken against the students.

Noting that the security of teachers was paramount, Chesergon said there is no way the teachers would have continued teaching after the attack.

He said even as the teachers prepare to appear before the Teachers Service Commission, it was important to undertake an independent audit targeting the teachers and the management to prevent the teachers from being victimised.
