Chicken thief gets two years imprisonment

A man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for stealing his neighbour’s chickens.
Peter Mwangangi pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him when he appeared before Nyahururu senior resident magistrate Ocharo Momanyi.
The charges stated that on October 13, 2017 at Ngarua in Laikipia County, the accused broke into a chicken house and stole seven hens from Mrs. Lucy Njeri Chege and Mr. George Ngugi Njoroge.
The accused however claimed he found the chickens beside the road and decided to take them to Ngarua police station but was confronted by the complainant before he reached the station.
The magistrate while making his ruling recalled that Mwangangi had also been imprisoned for four months for committing a similar offence in 2015.
He pleaded for leniency saying he was the bread winner to his family and if given opportunity he was ready to reform.
