Crocodile attacks man in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County
A 30 year old man was on Wednesday rushed to Homa Bay referral hospital in critical condition after being attacked by a crocodile in Kabuoch, Ndhiwa Sub County.
The victim, George Onyango was attacked when crossing river Kuja to their home in Bungu village within the Sub County.
Eyewitnesses said the crocodile grabbed the victim when he was trying to cross the river at around 6:00pm on Tuesday.
“The reptile captured and threw him on the other side of the river bank where he suffered injuries on both the legs,” a witness said, adding they stoned the crocodile before it disappeared into the water.
His brother, Eric Otieno called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to relocate the crocodile on grounds that the reptiles have been interfering with human life in the area.
“Recently two children suffered similar injuries in the river when they went to fetch water after being attacked by crocodiles,” Otieno said.
He urged Homabay county government to construct a bridge across the river. Otieno said that lack of a bridge has affected mobility in the area.
“Traders cannot reach Kachieng market centre especially during rainy season for fear of being attacked by the reptiles,” he added.
Area assistant chief Joash Osuju confirmed the incident and said the man suffered injuries from the attack.
“We took him to hospital after receiving reports that he was injured,” Osuju said.
