Malindi set to host International film festival
The Tourism stakeholders in Kilifi County are planning to host the first International Film Festival aimed at bringing together Africa and world renowned film makers and stars.
Speaking to the press on Monday in Malindi, where the festival will be held, Mining Cabinet Secretary (CS), Dan Kazungu said, “The weeklong international fete dubbed ‘Malindi International Film Festival’ is expected to offer opportunities for film market and help revive the ailing tourism sector”
Kazungu, who is the architect of the film festival, said their aim is to hold a ‘Mock festival’ in March next year before launching the bigger one in December 2018.
The CS said, countries like Nigeria in Africa, California in the US and Cane in France have gained world recognition due to film.
Kazungu also said experts are expected to come up with a draft proposal on how the grand film festival will be set to march the International Standards so as to attract top notch personalities in the film sector and to promote the Kenyan film market.
“Once the idea succeeds Malindi would be like California and any award that shall be given be like the Oscars awards given there,” Mr. Kazungu said
He also said he has established a network of 600 upcoming film makers in Kenya.
