Couple arraigned in court for torturing infant

A couple whose child was found with sewing needles in her body was Tuesday arraigned before a Thika court charged with subjecting their 10 month old daughter to torture.
The coupleJecintaNdunge 31 and her husband Isaac Gichure 41 who are parents to Irene Wairimudenied before the Thika Principal Magistrate Grace Omotho that on unknown dates they subjected their daughter to torture by inserting sewing needles into her body.
The duo was remanded in police custody until December11, when their case will be mentioned in the same court.
The two had applied to be released on bond but the prosecution denied them bail saying that they may interfere with investigations.
The father’s attempt to convince the court that he was currently taking care of their other three children hit a dead end after the area Children officer RebbecaKariuki told the court that they had already rescued the children and had taken them to a safe place.
