Regional Coordinators get additional responsibility

The  County Commissioners (CC)  will coordinate and supervise government projects in their areas of jurisdiction, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Dr. Fred Matiang’i has said.

“Projects like roads construction were a major challenge as some of the contractors don’t complete their work in time, and will no longer be paid without clearance from Deputy County Commissioners,” he said.

Addressing  CCs   and Chiefs in Nairobi  on Thursday, the CS stated that the administrators will be held accountable for national government functions, warning that they should not involve themselves in political activities and corruption, but focus on challenges in their areas.

“County Commissioners should report to the Regional Coordinators (RCs)  who will then write a report to government officials on the challenges that they encounter,” he added.

Matiang’i stressed  that RCs role of chairing and taking charge of security was crucial and must be taken very seriously in their localities.

He  said that all County Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioners, Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and National Police Service (NPS) should work with the RCs towards improving security in the society.

The CCs  were urged to work closely with their colleagues in the police service, with the government assuring them of full support in their endeavors to serve members of the public.

The  RCs  were previously called Provincial Commissioners before they replaced by the County System in 2013.
