Free health services for expectant women in Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga County Government has signed an MOU with the Kenya Red Cross to supply state of the arts Ambulances for use in all its five major hospitals.

Governor  Ann  Waiguru said the Ambulances will be fully equipped with ICU facilities to ensure patients get to the destined hospitals safely.

She said the specialized vehicles will be manned by trained hospital staff and other paramedical bodies.

Speaking after launching the ‘Linda Mama Initiative’ for expectant mothers at Kimbimbi Hospital on Friday, Waiguru also said an outreach program is to be rolled out to ensure all mothers in the county were covered.

“My government is working with churches, the provincial administration and other NGO’s to make sure all expectant mothers in the area are put under this program to ensure no one dies or misses this essential service,” she said.

Waiguru disclosed that Kerugoya, Kimbimbi, Sagana, Kianyaga, Baricho and Kiamutugu hospitals are to be upgraded to the levels they deserve.

“In the next two weeks I will be ground breaking the commencement of this hospital to level Four status as we gear up to upgrade Kerugoya Hospital to  Level Five,” she said.

Waiguru said by yesterday 300 mothers had been registered under the program through the NHIF.
