Two gunned down, one injured at Chesoo, Marakwet East
Two men were on Monday afternoon gunned down and one Police Reservist injured after bandits suspected to be from Baringo attacked Chesoo village in Marakwet East.
Two slain victims, Andrew Kipchumba Biwott, 25, and Gregory Kipkemoi Kitum, 28, were herding at Chesoo fields before they were ambushed by armed bandits killing them on the spot.
The killings brings the death toll in Kerio Valley to nine this year.
The Chief said around 40 bandits crossed the border between Marakwet East and Loywat in Baringo in the afternoon, tried to steal livestock from the herders but the reservist repulsed them leading to fierce gun battle killing the two and injuring the reservist but no livestock were driven away.
According to Chief Murekutwo Location, Abraham Yano, the injured police reservist, Luka Kawilwil, was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
On Friday last week, cattle rustlers suspected to be from West Pokot attacked Kipsitona village in Kamelei area at the highlands of Marakwet East injuring four herders and driving away an unknown number of livestock.
Leaders moved to the area to quell tension at the highlands on Friday afternoon only for the attackers to re-appear at the Kerio Valley .
