Police arrest two and recover AK 47

Two  people were on Thursday arrested along Iten- Kapsowar road and an AK 47 rifle with three rounds of ammunition and a knife recovered.

The  Keiyo North OCPD, Mwenda  Meme  said the two, aged 35 and 24 years, were arrested after a dramatic chase by both police and the public.

The  OCPD  said the two had hired a motor cycle from Marigat in Baringo County where it was believed they bought the weapon and were using it to transport to Kapyego in Marakwet  East.

“Members of the public got suspicious of the duo as they passed through Iten and immediately informed the police who responded immediately,” Meme said.

Meme said the two strongly resisted arrest and even attempted to stab the police but were overpowered and the motor cycle impounded.

He said police have launched investigations to establish the motive of buying the weapon, adding the pair would be taken to court today (Friday).

Marakwet East has witnessed incessant conflicts between Marakwets and their Pokot neighbours.
