Man commits suicide in domestic feud
A 55 year old man from Kitale committed suicide over the weekend following a family dispute.
Police confirmed that Patrick Kairiti aka Wamugo, hanged himself following frustrations by an errant son.
Trans Nzoia police boss Jackson Mwenga said the deceased’s second wife Jentrix Chepkemoi told police that her husband hanged himself at around 5am on Saturday.
Family sources indicated that one of his sons sold a family car without his consent and the car later involved in an accident.
Chepkemoi had told the police that her husband was stressed after accident survivors came to him demanding for compensation.
Apart from selling the father’s car without his consent, the son, according to police sources, has also been squandering his money entrusted to him to make deposits a local bank. The deceased has been a businessman in Kibomet.
Chepkemoi had told police that her husband woke up from their house at about 4 am and told her that he was going to water their vegetable garden a few meters away from the house.
“It was unusual for him to do such a task. So I woke up after 15 minutes and followed him, only to find him hanging from a rooftop of a pig sty, with a sisal rope around his neck, after looking for him around the compound,” she told police.
She raised an alarm immediately for help. Police were alerted of the incident and responded swiftly.
“We suspect domestic dispute behind the suicide of the old man, but we are investigating the matter,” said Mr. Mwenga.
He said the body of the deceased was moved to the Kitale County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
