Brothers Kill Uncle at Their Fathers Funeral
Police in Trans Nzoia have arrested four brothers for the killing of their uncle following a disagreement that turned ugly during the burial arrangements for their father.
Gilbert Wafula, 27, Makokha Khaemba, 47, Andrew Nyongesa, 52, and Michael Wamalwa, 17 killed David Simiyu Wanyama ( a paternal uncle) at Kaburetwa village in Saboti location within Saboti Constituency. They had disagreed with their 60 year old uncle over burial arrangements for their father before a scuffle ensued.
Saboti assistant County commissioner Elijah Omoyo said the four were not happy when the late uncle showed up with a coffin to bury their father without their prior consent.
According to the suspects, their uncle had not sought their permission to buy a coffin for his late brother and appeared in a hurry to set up a date for the burial rites.
Witnesses said it was during the heated debate that the four brothers attempted to compel their uncle to destroy the unwanted coffin but when he declined to obey their orders they lynched him.
“Since there was another funeral of one of their relatives, the deceased had suggested that his late brother be buried early but I believe that did not go down well with his nephews,” Omoyo told KNA.
He added that the deceased who is a carpenter was killed by his irate nephews who were armed with crude weapons.”When the deceased refused to destroy the coffin his nephews set the coffin on fire before beating him to death with crude weapons,” he said.
The assistant county commissioner told KNA that immediately after committing the crime the four escaped from the scene only to be arrested later by police at Tabason farm with the help of members of the public.
“They are in police Custody awaiting to be arraigned in court to answer to murder charges,” said Mr Samson Ole Kine, the Trans Nzoia County Police Commander.
The body was moved to Kiminini Cottage Hospital Mortuary.
