Narrow escape for Governor Mutua as bridge collapses in Gucha

Machakos Governor Dr.Alfred Mutua narrowly escaped drowning into river Gucha in Ogembo after a bridge he was standing on during a visit at a site caved in.

Mutua  who was being shown around by Kisii County Deputy Governor, Joash Maangia were lucky as the bridge collapsed a few minutes after they left the area

The Machakos governor was touring Ogembo town under the guidance of Maangi to see development projects that his counterpart in Kisii County, Governor James Ongwae has achieved.

The duo with their security team and members of the public were standing on the bridge to have a perfect view of Ogembo town, when it suddenly collapsed forcing all those standing on it to glide into the river.

There were neither fatalities nor serious injuries because the security team acted promptly to rescue everyone out of the water, in an incident that left people questioning the stability and quality of the bridge that is hardly ten years old.

Kisii County deputy Governor promised that they will reconstruct the bridge as a matter of urgency with Mutua promising financial assistance in reconstructing the bridge that is used by residents from Nyakorokoro village to access Ogembo town faster.
