Public health officials close school

Pupils of Chekulo Primary  School in Kabuchai Constituency Bungoma County have missed classes for three weeks now, after public health officials ordered its closure due to the uninhabitable state of the school.

Public health officials closed down the school on May 17 after it was established that all its toilets had collapsed and classrooms were dilapidated.

James Nyairo, a Public Health Officer based in Kabuchai said the situation was so bad that more than 1000 pupils were sharing the only three remaining pit latrines which were also full.

The school deputy head teacher, Simon Makokha said it may take the school time before they can raise the requisite funds to put up fresh sanitary facilities for the pupils.

Makokha said the toilets were submerged as a result of the ongoing heavy rains

The deputy head teacher is appealing to the county government and well-wishers to financially support the school put up new classrooms and toilets so that learners can resume classes.
