China products exhibition kicks off in Nairobi

China investors and business practitioners Wednesday unveiled their fourth China Trade Week (CTW) exhibition in Kenya to share trade ideas and products for enhanced bilateral relations.

The exhibition was officiated at by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Adan Mohammed at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).

Addressing the exhibitors who included investors and business practitioners the CS said the level of business between the two countries continued to be one of the fastest growing, as China remains one of Kenya’s biggest trading partners.

“We want to see a lot of Chinese business practitioners and investors setting up their manufacturing companies in Kenya as a way of accessing both domestic and international markets,’’ said Mohammed.

However, the CS observed that the Government will ensure all the goods coming into the country meet the acceptable Kenyan standards.

“I have received complaints in my office from the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) of Chinese setting up business that they are yet to be licensed hence having a negative impact on the SMEs.

Strict measures will be taken on those found conducting illegal business, “warned the CS.

Speaking at the event Chairman of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry James Mureu said he was excited as a business practitioner to be able to position Kenyan products in the Chinese market and was optimistic that the products would meet Chinese standards.

“China is one of the largest market in the world and I have no doubt during this trade week will be able not only to boost our business relations but also exchange our cultures,” said Mureu.

The exhibition will be held in two phases the first being June 13 to 15 and the second phase is from June 18 to 20.
