Gang Rapes and Kills Granny

Grief  has engulfed residents of Kirogo village in Murang’a South Sub County after an elderly woman was raped and killed and her body dumped by a roadside. The body of  Ms Jedida Wambui, 73, was found dumped along  a road on Monday morning by pupils who were heading to school. Pupils in a local primary school started screaming after they spotted the naked body of the granny which was dumped few metres from her home. Area residents said the deceased was last spotted at Mbombo market where she sells bananas along Murang’a-Kenol road. A neighbour who sought anonymity told KNA that on Sunday evening,  she spotted the granny heading home from the market. “I was shocked in the morning when I heard children screaming and rushing to the scene only to find the naked body of Wambui lying along the road,” lamented the neighbour. Some residents alleged that the deceased passed by a nearby drinking den before proceeding to her home before 9pm. The assailants, the residents claimed inserted a cloth in her mouth to block her from shouting for help. Residents decried the increased crime incidences urging police to beef up security in the area as business people are forced to close their businesses as early as 6pm fearing to be attacked. Confirming the incident, Murang’a South OCPD Mr. John Onditi said the granny was strangled to death by her assailants. From  the observation, Onditi further said there was an indication that the deceased was also raped before she was killed. “Security officers have been deployed to investigate the murder as we urge members of public to provide any information which may help arrest the killers,” said the OCPD. At the same time, Onditi said, a suspected robber was lynched by the  public after a failed robbery mission in Mowlem village. The suspect who was in company of others was left alone before he was lynched at Mowlem village and a motor cycle burnt. “The suspect was cornered by members of the public as his accomplices fled. A motor cycle that was being used was also burnt,” said Onditi. By Bernard Munyao
