Lone motorist shot dead along Thika superhighway identified.
A lone motorist who was gunned down in a hail of bullets along the Thika superhighway on Tuesday night has been identified as Wilson Mwangi Munene, a Kasarani based businessman.
According to a police source at the Thika police station, the 32 year old Mwangi who was married with a one year old child was a businessman who also doubled up as a police informer.
The deceased Mercedes Benz KCE 183 Z is said to have been intercepted by another vehicle whose occupants rained over 100 bullets on him killing him on the spot.
His body was taken Thika General Kago Funeral home awaiting post mortem and the vehicle towed to the Thika police station.
Mwangi is said to be from Nyeri County, Mukurweini Sub- County, Gakindu location but resided with his family in Lumumba drive Roysambu Constituency.
The shooting that happened near the Vincentian Retreat center left residents of Thika town and its environs in fear coming only two weeks after a female clinical officer was gunned down at her Ngoingwa estate.
Speaking in Thika when he led in the burning of gambling machine and illicit liquor collected from Muranga and Kiambu Counties, Central Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega said that a special police team had been formed to deal with the escalating cases of insecurity in the area and called on local communities to join hands with the police in combating crime.
“The robbers are taking advantage of the good road networks in this region and the smooth and the Thika Superhighway as an escape route to wreak havoc in this region but we will not allow this to continue and the Central team is ready and well equipped to wipe them out,” he said.
“We are ready and well prepared to fight the armed gangsters. If you’re armed to terrorize Kenyans, we’ll get rid of you without any apology to make. Note that your days are numbered,” he concluded.
