Confirming the closure of the school, Kibwezi Sub County Education Officer (SCEO), Kennedy Machora said the rowdy students also vandalized the school’s electrical system.

Machora said the students went on rampage demanding to have the confiscated items returned to them.

“The students were demanding back their mobile phones but the school administration declined causing the riot,” he said.

The  SCEO said the school administration conducted the search after a section of the students became restless and started stealing laboratory equipment.

He said a meeting held on Tuesday between Parent Teachers Association (PTA), the school Board of Management (BOM) and the school administration resolved to close the school following the riot.
