Police hunt for thugs behind drugging, killing truck driver

Police in Machakos and Makueni are looking for criminals who drugged and kidnapped a truck driver and his loader in Makueni before dumping them in a forest in Machakos where the driver was found dead and the loader in a critical state.

According to Kathiani OCPD, Lazarus  Tarus, the two who were found on Saturday dumped at Katunda forest in Iveti hills of Machakos County with their hands tied behind them, were kidnapped at Sultan Hamud town, Makueni, along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

“They were kidnapped by unknown thugs who drugged and bundled them into a car,” Tarus told the media, adding that a forest warder who was on normal patrols stumbled upon the two deep in the forest and alerted the police, who rushed there and found the driver dead and the loader in a bad state.

“The two had their hands tied behind them,” he explained.

The security officer said they took the two to Machakos Level 5 hospital, where the body was taken to the mortuary, while the loader was treated and later transferred to Makueni hospital to assist in investigations.

However, the police did not disclose the fate of the lorry or the cargo it was transporting from Mombasa to Nairobi.

Meanwhile, a man and a child perished in a house fire on Saturday morning at Kithini Township in the outskirts of Machakos town.

The  Area Chief, Joshua Kimeu said the fire gutted the residential house where the two were sleeping at around 6.00 am. “We received a call from neighbors and alerted the fire department officers who rushed to the place. However, by the time they reached the two had been burnt to death”, said the administrator.

Saying the cause of the fire had not been ascertained, Kimeu said the bodies were taken to Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary to await post mortem.
