Poor parenting to blame for insecurity, teenage pregnancies in Baringo
Poor parenting especially among women is contributing to insecurity and teenage pregnancies in Baringo, wife to the county governor, Mrs. Ivy Kiptis has said.
Mrs. Kiptis noted that women play a great role in molding character of young children especially those below 9 years, hence children who were neglected by their mothers were highly likely to ape bad behavior from members of the community.
“The work of fathers is to provide basic needs like food, shelter and school fees to the family, your role as mothers is to bring up your children by teaching them good morals to make them dependable citizens in the future,” she said.
Making the remarks on Tuesday at FGCK Church Kapsesat in Kabarnet town during launch of Audio CD for a local gospel artiste, Mrs. Kiptis asked families to love one another as a way of nurturing peace which will spill over to entire society.
The governor’s wife cautioned mothers against abdicating their responsibility of bringing up children, saying she has witnessed cases of women concentrating on other domestic issues, whiler leaving young girls to look after babies and young children.
“Which morals are you teaching your girls, when you leave them to spend much of their time with your baby? These girls stay with your babies till they reach a moment in which they wish to have children of their own. As mothers, you should take the burden of bringing up your child,” she reiterated.
She further urged mothers to nurture talents of their children and allow them to exploit their talents.
Mrs. Kiptis who congratulated Zeddy Tarus for her new song “Nani Kama Mama” (There is no one like a mother), asked gospel artists to always dedicate their work to God.
