Mother instigates imprisonment for son who killed her sheep
A middle aged man has found himself in trouble after an Iten court sentenced him to four years in jail for killing his mother’s sheep.
Elijah Kipkirui couldn’t believe when he pleaded with the court to forgive him for the offence but the mother, Caroline Keitany told the court not to heed to his plea, saying it was not the first time that he was killing her livestock.
The complainant told the court that her cows cannot graze in peace when the accused is around adding that he has also been killing her poultry urging the court not to release him.
The Senior Principal Magistrate, Hezron Nyaberi when passing the sentence said he had considered the accused ‘s mitigation and the objection by the complainant and sentenced him to four years without the option of a fine.
The accused was found guilty that on june 14 this year at Kapteren village in Keiyo North Elgeyo Marakwet county at around 3.00am he killed one sheep property of Caroline Keitany.
The Prosecutor, Wanjiku Karanja told the court that the complainant was asleep when she heard commotion in her sheep’s pen.
She went to check what was happening and that is when she found the accused whom she knew as he was her son lying next to the sheep which was already dead.
She went back to sleep and in the morning went to look for the carcass only to find it missing.
At around 11.00am her neighbour, Abraham Kasembe told her that he saw her son with the carcass.
She reported the matter to the Kapteren police post after which the son was arrested and presented in court.
The accused was given 14 days to appeal.
