Sh.61m disbursed to ECD centres in Uasin Gishu County
The Uasin Gishu county government has disbursed more than Sh.61m towards the development of 122 early child development centres across the county.
The County Executive for Education, Joseph Kurgat said the benefitting ECD centres are spread in 30 wards across the region.
He further said teaching and learning materials worth Sh.22 million have already been procured and will be distributed to the centres once schools reopen in September.
Kurgat said continuous funding of ECD centres by the county government is aimed at providing a conducive and improved learning environment for the young children.
The county deputy governor David Chemno said within the last three years, the devolved unit has done more than 70 per cent construction of early childhood classes and employed 1000 fully trained ECD teachers.
Chemno underscored need for the Teachers Service Commission to absorb ECD teachers to enable them benefit from uniform emoluments across the country just like their primary schools counterparts.
