Polio Immunization Campaign 

About 11,500  children under five years are targeted for the Round Three Polio Immunization Campaign which commences on the 15th-19 Sept in Ijara sub county of Garissa county.

The  said the arrangement of ensuring the polio immunization campaign round three is targeting about 11,500 children under five years and appealed to imams sheikhs, pastors and religious leaders to ensure that they made announcements to the residents at various mosques and churches.

However, the representative of Ijara Deputy County Commissioner, James Korir said the security apparatus are ready to provide security in the al shabaab militia prone area with the help of the multi-agency security agencies.

Korir  said they will mobilize chiefs and there assistants to ensure they work with the health workers on the immunization campaign.

Nzau  noted that the immunization campaign was necessary following a random sample carried from Eastleigh estate in Nairobi

He  said the Polio type 2 which was eradicated has been detected in Eastleigh estate and would cover about 12 counties neighbouring Eastleigh and northern Kenya where there is freaky weak government and porous borders of Somalia and Ethiopian.

Nzau  said type two polio was detected in India in 1999 but eradicated by the World Health Organization.

The  meeting was attended by sheikhs, imams and elders at the Ijara Sub County  Medical  Officer’s  office, Dr. Abdalla Mohamed Badamana among others.
