Four Students drown 




Four  Students are feared dead after drowning in river Athi at Kyua area in Katangi division while on an educational tour  on Friday.

The  four students from Syokisinga mixed secondary school in Yatta Sub County, Machakos slipped and fell into the river when they went too close to the bank.

According  to the Yatta sub county police boss, Richard Ngetich, rescue efforts were hindered by darkness and have resumed Saturday morning.

The  officer  said the four students included three male and one female, all in form one at the school.

One body of a male student was retrieved soon after and was taken to Mediance Mortuary in Matuu Yatta Sub County. Three other bodies have not been retrieved yet.

Meanwhile, a primary School pupil drowned in a neighbouring Kangonde area when she fell into a dam under construction.

According to the area Chief, Peter Munyasya, the body of the seven years old girl was retrieved and taken to Mediance Mortuary awaiting postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.
