Betting company donate Sh250, 000 relief food to hunger stricken families
Fifty two families in Igambang’ombe division, Tharaka Nithi County have benefited from relief food worth Sh250, 000 from a betting company, Rambo Resource Limited.
Speaking at Kamaindi market during the distribution of beans, cooking oil, maize flour and sanitary towels to the hunger stricken families Tuesday, the company’s Eastern region manager Ms Beatrice Obonyo said the food would serve the families for at least two weeks.
She noted that the corporate social responsibility exercise was meant to eradicate hunger in the region by helping affected families with some basic items.
“We normally donate food to hunger stricken families especially in the arid and semi-arid parts of the country,” she said.
Chuka Igambang’ombe deputy county commissioner Omar Salat said only the most affected families benefited from the donation and that the national government’s donations would soon kick off in the division.
“I am aware that almost every family is affected by ongoing hunger but only 52 could be catered for in the programme but the national government will donate food to all the families in two weeks time,” said Mr Salat.
Miriam Wambui, a mother of two daughters said the donation was a reprieve to her family that had spent the last two days without food.
“Life has been unbearable because we hardly get enough food and we cannot cultivate our land due to the ongoing dry spell,” she said.
