County staff held over voter bribery allegations 

An  Officer  at  Kitui County Government’s Finance Department was  on Tuesday “arrested” alongside another person for allegedly bribing voters near Kakuuni Primary  School polling station in Itoleka location, Kitui Central.

Ms. Ruth  Katongu Mutonya, a Finance Officer and James Nzuki  were arrested by the public on suspicion of giving cash to people in an attempt to influence them  to vote for a certain candidate, according to Kitui Central Deputy CID Boss, Stephen  Birgen.

Birgen  said Sh.31, 980, in assorted denominations, was recovered from the two suspects who will remain in police custody to allow for investigation into the alleged electoral offence and may be arraigned in Court  on Wednesday.
