Doctors in Homa Day demanding salary arrears

Over 200 doctors in Homa Bay County are demanding their seven months ‘salary arrears which have remained overdue since last year.

The doctors were last paid in November 2016 and have not received their pay despite discharging their duties in health facilities.
Addressing the press in Homa Bay town today, the branch Secretary General of Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union Dr. Ben Otieno said efforts to meet the governor and his officials have failed.

Dr. Otieno said most of the medics are unable to meet their daily needs due to nonpayment of salaries.
He said the medics will go on strike unless the county government acts by the end of this week.
The Medic noted that Homa Bay County Referral Hospital is in a pathetic state with no drugs, water and vaccines, adding; subordinate workers are also on strike due to non-payment of their salaries.
He called on the county government to honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement which was reached recently but has not been implemented failure to which they will go on strike.
He said statutory deductions such as NHIF, bank loans and Insurance covers have not been remitted to the relevant institutions.
