EACC detectives arraign Kitui County officer in court over Sh2 million tender
An officer of the County Government of Kitui was Tuesday arraigned in court and charged with undertaking a Shs 2 million government contract in contravention of Public Service Laws and Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
Dr. Naomi Mawia Mang’atu, who is a member of the County Public Service Board, appeared before Kitui Principal Magistrate Johnston Munguti where she was charged with unlawfully supplying oil, fuel and lubricants to her employer.
Ms Mang’atu was reportedly arrested Tuesday by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Ethics (EACC) detectives and grilled for hours in an undisclosed location before the charges were preferred against her.
The court heard that she made the supplies through tender number CGOK-Kitui/T/03/2014-2015 awarded to Mapana Enterprises Limited, a company she is believed to be the proprietor, between July 18 and November 6, 2014.
She, however, denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh500, 000 plus a surety of similar amount.
Her lawyer Mr.Kahiga asked the court to order that the defense be supplied with copies of witness statements besides any other documents that the prosecution would rely on during the trial.
The case will be mentioned on September 26th and heard on January 15, 2018.
