Jubilee sweeps parliamentary and county assembly seats in Baringo North
The Baringo North MP, William Cheptumo of Jubilee party has retained the seat following a slim win over PDR candidate Joseph Makilap.
According to the results released by the Constituency Returning Officer, Joseph Laboo Masindet at 9.30am on Thursday, Chepumo garnered 12,413 votes while Makilap vying on PDR ticket got 12,374 votes.
The IEBC results indicated that Nelly Yatich of KANU garnered 7, 134, Lilian Chesikaw (IND) 914, Sammy Chelanga (MCCP) 795, Stephen Kipkebut (IND) 749, and Moses Kwonyike of ODM, 405.
After the results were announced supporters of Cheptumo burst into dance and songs to celebrate the win.
However, Makilap complained that his votes were stolen but did not hint if he will challenge the results.
In Baringo South, Grace Kipchoim of Jubilee also successfully defended her parliamentary seat narrowly beating KANU’s Charles Kamuren.
In Eldama Ravine constituency, Moses Lesonet, (Jubilee) retained his seat by beating former East African Community Minister, Musa Sirma.
In Baringo Central, Joshua Kandie of little known MCCP trounced the hopeful David Kiplagat of Jubilee by garnering 15,171 against Kiplagat’s 14,030 while Eddy Koimett (KANU) received 2,491.
David Kiplagat had fought very hard to floor the long serving area MP, Sammy Mwaita during the Jubilee primaries in April only to lose to the newcomer of the little known party of Maendeleo Chap Chap.
However, Kiplagat conceded defeat and pledged to support the MP elect immediately the results were announced by the constituency returning officer Erastus Orwa Otieno at Kabarnet Boy’s High school tallying centre.
