Kajiado residents benefits from SGR Phase 2A Jobs

Kajiado residents have expressed satisfaction over the employment opportunities offered to the locals in the ongoing Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase 2A.

The Nairobi – Naivasha line is an extension of the Mombasa – Nairobi line, which was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week at Embulbul in Kajiado North, Sub-County.

During an interview with Kenya News Agency last Friday, Oloolua Ward Member of County Assembly, Peter Njogu, said the majority beneficiaries of SGR jobs are the unemployed youth from Kajiado County.

Njogu lauded the SGR contractor China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) for giving first priority to the locals to get employment in order to improve their livelihoods.

“We approached the SGR contractor as the local leaders to ensure they give priority to the residents of Kajiado on job opportunities and they actually honoured our request,” said the MCA.

He added that the SGR in Kajiado has led to increased business opportunities and attracted a number of investors both locals and international.

The County Assembly legislature noted that the SGR Corridor will open up Kajiado County to become one of the leading business hubs in the regions.

Similarly, locals who were interviewed with KNA said they are optimistic that the SGR Corridor will create many job opportunities both for the professionals and the manual workers, which will reduce the increased rate of unemployment in Kajiado.
