Kenchic FC crowned champs for Kiambu County Cup
Kenchic FC and Kianguno FC are this year’s Kiambu County champions cup winners for the male and female teams respectively.
After going through a gruesome and bruising battle for the slot from the grassroots, the two teams beat the odds to be crowned winners with a shopping voucher worth Shs. 300, 000 for each team.
The two teams emerged the champs during the Madaraka Day fete matches played at Karuri Secondary School grounds in Kiambaa Sub-County on Wednesday.
David Shikole’s solitary goal was enough to give Kenchic FC from Limuru East Ward, Limuru Sub-county the title of Kiambu Champions after beating Guango FC from Mucatha Ward, Kiambaa Sub-county.
In the ladies finals, Kianguno FC from Gituamba Ward, Gatundu North were crowned champions and were also given a voucher worth Sh 300,000 after a penalty shootout following a barren draw.
During the penalty shootout, three of Mwiki girls from Mwiki Ward, Ruiru Sub-county failed to score from the spot ending the match at 4-2 after the post penalties.
The tournament that started at the ward level with over 700 teams participating ended with four teams where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners up got vouchers worth Shs. 200,000 Shs. 100,000 and Shs. 50,000 respectively to buying sporting kits.
Leading the County cheering squad, the Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication County Executive, Machel Waikenda assured there will be formation of a ladies team dubbed “Kiambu County Starlets FC”, which will play in division one league.
On the same score, the department gave 20 ladies teams that qualified to the Sub-county level uniforms and balls.
Chief Officer, Marie Mugo reiterated the department of Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication’s commitment to supporting and growing talent among the youth.
