Malindi MP quits ODM to defend his seat as an Independent candidate

Malindi MP Willy Mtengo has said he will defend his seat as an Independent candidate after losing to Kilifi County women rep Ms. Aisha Jumwa during the ODM nominations last week.
Speaking to the press Wednesday, Mr. Mtengo said the ODM nominations in Malindi were not free and fair and Jumwa was given the nomination certificate through the back door hence, he will face her on ballot box during the August polls as an Independent candidate.
Mtengo also said all MCAs aspirants in ODM who lost during the party primaries were going to defend their seats as independent candidates because they lost unfairly during the nominations.
He said, “I was prepared to support a Jubilee party candidate if the process of getting an independent ticket were not possible to ensure that Ms. Jumwa does not become MP Malindi”.
He further said he was not ready to accept a nominated post even if ODM party would ask him to drop the idea of defending his seat.
