A  man  was on Tuesday arrested for threatening to join terror group Al-Shabaab after he was disqualified to join Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) during a recruitment exercise in Nyeri.

Hosea  Ng’ang’a, 22, failed the medical test at Mweiga Stadium in Nyeri, despite having met all the preliminary qualifications and was dismissed from the exercise.

Unhappy, Ng’ang’a told KDF officers that he would join Al-Shabaab, saying he was very disappointed and wished he never tried the recruitment as he had been denied an opportunity to join the military.

The officers tried to calm him but their efforts were futile as he insisted that he would join the terror group.

According to the Officer-in-Charge of the Center, Lieutenant Colonel, Paul Aruasa, the man had to be taken into custody after he was heard asking for Al Shabaab recruitment points.

“He was found asking for recruitment centers for Al Shabaab so we took him in,’’ said Lt. Col, Aruasa.

He was handed over to the police and is currently detained at Mweiga Police Station for questioning.

Aruasa added that he would be questioned by both military and regular police over the threats before further action was taken against him.

No women were recruited from the centre as officials said that this was ‘for purposes of gender balance’.
