Residents of Lwandeti location in Lugari Sub-county have been assured of enhanced security following a spate of criminal activities.
Matete Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mr. George Omollo made the assurance in a public baraza at Sango village in Mabuye Sub-
location on Friday.

The DCC expressed concern over increasing crime, ranging from petty theft to robbery and murder.

“I want to sternly warn locals against defying the rule of law by involving themselves in criminal activities,” cautioned Omollo, revealing he had instructed security organs to increase night and day patrols.

He encouraged them to instead closely co-operate with security agencies as well as community policing and peace committees and the Nyumba Kumi members.

“Let us collectively curb crime in our area by volunteering vital security information to nearby police offices and officers, chiefs and village elders,” appealed Omollo.

On Wednesday this week a man suspected of being a member of  a criminal gang

that has been stealing domestic animals in the area was lynched by members of public.

The Deputy Commissioner assured  that the  security officers would eventually arrest, and prosecute individuals mentioned by the deceased.

He, however, pleaded with the local residents against taking the law into their hands.

Omollo praised the courts for jailing a hard core criminal connected with major highway robberies along the Eldoret-Webuye highway.

The unnamed criminal was sent behind bars for 99 years, according to Omollo.
“The historic sentence would greatly reduce highway robberies, especially involving long distance vehicles, along the highway,” he observed.
