Shs.120m Bridge to boost inter-county trade

The  newly commissioned bridge at Khaunga, over River Nzoia in Mumias East Sub- County is envisaged to be a milestone for development of trade between Bungoma and Kakamega Counties.

The bridge put up at a cost of Shs.120 million would improve connectivity between Mumias East, Navakholo and Matungu sub-counties of Kakamega and neighboring Bungoma County.

Area residents welcomed the project, saying the County government of Kakamega that has funded the construction had turned their dream into reality.

Countless people have perished while trying to cross River Nzoia but the bridge would now allow safe travel across the river.

The 75 meter long bridge in Khaunga area would accelerate growth of agri-based industries in the two counties by creating better connectivity to new markets for farm the region

Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya who commissioned the project said the bridge would ease movement of people and goods and fast track development.

He said that the bridge that also links the County to Bungoma at Matungu would boost inter-county transport and trade.
