Take your children off the streets, parents warned
The rising number of school going children roaming the streets of Oyugis town is worrying, Rachuonyo south sub county children officer Mr. Caleb Ochor said.
Ochor who was speaking to KNA Friday said the children who include young boys and girls have been spotted loitering and rummaging dustbins in the town during the day and night, and some hang out in carwash areas to wash vehicles.
He said the children must be in school and asked their parents to take them out of the streets adding he will round up all the children and identify their parents who will face the law over neglect of the children.
Ochor noted that there have been no reported cases of missing children from homes in the region. “This means that the children seen in the town could be as a result of child neglect currently on the rise according to our monthly statistics,” he said.
The officer also warned that anybody found engaging school going children in any form of labour will be arrested as all children must be in school.
He said the government has provided free primary and secondary education and called for concerted effort from all children stakeholders especially the local administrators to stem the tide of street kids which in on the rise
