A  driver and a passenger died in a grisly road accident on Thursday night that occurred along Embu-Meru Highway near  Njuri High School in Chuka Igambang’ombe Constituency of Tharaka Nithi County.

The two who were travelling in a Sienta car died on spot after they were involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer that was heading to Embu.

According to Chuka Igambang’ombe OCPD, Barasa Sayia, the driver of the car was overtaking another vehicle before the accident happened at around 8pm.

Sayia said the car was headed to Chuka from Embu and the bodies of the two were taken to Kieni hospital mortuary in the neighbouring Embu County.

“The car was reduced to wreck but the driver of the trailer was not hurt,” said Sayia.

The OCPD has warned drivers against speeding on the busy highway which has numerous corners where in most cases accidents occur.

“Drivers should drive carefully during the night and especially now that the rain season is approaching that makes the tarmac slippery,” he noted.
