Vihiga ANC supporters warned against sacking of party Secretary General

Vihiga ANC officials, flanked by supporters, briefing the press in
Mbale town on Thursday. They cautioned the national office in Nairobi
against attempts to sack the party’s national General Secretary,
Godfrey Osotsi and Vihiga branch chairperson, Sikalo Ochiel.

Amani National Congress (ANC) officials in Vihiga County joined party supporters in protesting over the eminent axing of Godfrey Osotsi as its national Secretary General and area branch chairperson, Sikalo Ochiel.
Led by branch Women Leader, Rita Atieno, the officials and supporters cautioned they would not allow the party’s national office in Nairobi to victimize officials at the grassroots over issues encountered during the just concluded primaries.
The primaries saw some ANC bigwigs and preferred candidates lose in the primaries.
According to the protesters, who peacefully demonstrated within Mbale town on Thursday, Osotsi and Ochiel were being unfairly targeted by some unnamed influential persons over the same.
“We are protesting in the strongest terms over the manner in which some senior leaders have hatched selfish schemes to destabilize the
party, including unconstitutionally snatching Osotsi and Ochiel their positions. We shall not accept such schemes,” warned Atieno.
In a press briefing, the officials appealed to the party Leader, Musalia Mudavadi, to intervene and protect the duo against the axe.
“In fact the party should reward Osotsi and Ochiel for conducting free and fair primaries instead of sacrificing the duo for misdeeds of
others,” said the brief.
The aggrieved ANC supporters used the occasion to urge Vihiga Member of Parliament (MP), Yusuf Chanzu, who will be vying for the county’s gubernatorial seat on an ANC ticket, to widely consult in order to make an informed decision on whoever will be his running mate.
Chanzu has on several political occasions hinted at picking his running mate from the Abanyore community, that largely occupies Luanda and Emuhaya sub counties.
“We are also appealing to Yusuf Chanzu to consult with party supporters in Emuhaya and Luanda sub counties to enable him pick a
credible running mate,” urged Atieno.
