Wajir Governor names running mate

Incumbent Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has picked his running mate for the gubernatorial contest in the August 8  general polls.

“I wish to announce that after wide and thorough consultations with various stakeholders among the residents of the larger Wajir, I have picked Mwalimu Ahmed Abdikadir Nunow as my running mate for the August 8, 2017 Wajir County gubernatorial race”, said the Governor in brief statement released to the media Wednesday.

A political novice, Abdikadir Nunow is a practicing teacher who though born in Wajir South, was brought up in Modagashe in Garissa County where he underwent his primary and secondary education.

The 36 year old educationist studied for his Bachelor of Education Degree at Kenyatta University before being employed by the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) eleven years ago.

“Ahmed has worked as a teacher for over a decade and is now pursuing a Master’s in Diplomacy and International Relations at Kenyatta University”, revealed the Governor, who is running on an ODM party ticket unopposed after being endorsed by party leader Raila Odinga three weeks ago.

According to Gitahi Mathu, his former teacher at Modagashe Secondary School, Ahmed Nunow was a diligent and reliable student.

“As his class teacher from form one to four, I attest that the governor’s choice is appropriate and he is fit for the job,” said Mr. Mathu.

The announcement puts to rest speculations that the current Wajir South legislator Abdullahi Diriye was to replace outgoing Deputy Governor Abdihafidh Yarow who decamped to Jubilee Party last month.

This comes after another choice for running mate Osman Gurie rejected the offer during a public event two weeks ago attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Orahey grounds in Wajir town.
